ABFPRS sets requirements for maintaining certificates
Requirements for the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery’s maintenance-of-certification in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery program (MOC in FPRSTM) are now available for review on this website. (Click here for more information). Diplomates who hold time-limited certificates will have to meet these requirements in order to maintain ABFPRS certification. Lifetime certificants may participate in the MOC in FPRSTM program voluntarily if they wish to demonstrate periodic recertification to patients, hospitals, and others.

12 MORE SURGEONS BECOME ABFPRS DIPLOMATES
At its September 20 meeting, the ABFPRS Board of Directors determined that the following 12 surgeons had met all of the requirements to become ABFPRS diplomates. The action brings the total number of surgeons certified by the ABFPRS to 873.

Kent Gardner achieves highest score for 2007 Anderson prize
Kent E. Gardner, MD, of Saint George, Utah, garnered the highest marks on the 2007 ABFPRS examination. That accomplishment earns him the distinction of winning the Jack R. Anderson Prize for Scholastic Excellence, which will be awarded at the AAFPRS Fall Meeting in Washington, DC.

Schoenrock Award bestowed on Devinder Mangat
Devinder S. Mangat, MD, of Cincinnati, Ohio, was named recipient of the 2007 Larry D. Schoenrock Distinguished Service Award. Established in 1997, the annual award recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to the integrity of the examination and certification programs for facial plastic surgery.

ABOUT FACE Sofola and Lopez honored as new ABFPRS diplomates for facial plastic surgery skills honed to treat wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This year, the ABFPRS honors two new diplomates, Doctors Ife Sofola and Manuel Lopez, who are serving in the U.S. military and caring for soldiers wounded in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

ABFPRS to require office surgery accreditation
Surgeons seeking initial certification by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS) will have to meet a new requirement, effective January 1, 2007: They must operate in an accredited facility when performing procedures using Level II anesthesia or above.
