ABFPRS certifies 18 surgeons
At its September 10 meeting, the ABFPRS Board of Directors determined that the following 18 surgeons had met all of the requirements to become ABFPRS diplomates. The action brings the total number of diplomates to 1045.

The ABFPRS honors Dr. Jose Barrera as its 1000th diplomate for his facial plastic surgery skills honed to treat wounded and disfigured in Afghanistan
"I’ll be back," Dr. Jose Barrera informed Laurie Wirth, ABFPRS Executive Director, when he was told that ABFPRS certification could not be awarded when he first applied in 2008.

ABFPRS sets requirements for maintaining certificates
Requirements for the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery's maintenance-of-certification in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery program (MOC in FPRSTM) are now available for review on this website. (Click here for more information). Diplomates who hold time-limited certificates will have to meet these requirements in order to maintain ABFPRS certification. Lifetime certificants may participate in the MOC in FPRSTM program voluntarily if they wish to demonstrate periodic recertification to patients, hospitals, and others.

ABFPRS to require office surgery accreditation
Surgeons seeking initial certification by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS) will have to meet a new requirement, effective January 1, 2007: They must operate in an accredited facility when performing procedures using Level II anesthesia or above.
